Ricky Martin has always considered his life to be a balancing act, but Livin’ La Vida Loca comes with some hard lessons.
Martin will discuss his struggles and successes in a one-hour VH1 Behind the Music special set to air Sunday.
ChicagoPride.com reports, “In this Behind the Music, Ricky Martin recounts his career from his early days with the Latin pop group Menudo through his days as a soap opera star and finally to his career as a music phenomenon.”
Last year, Martin came out as gay on his blog – an acknowledgement that didn’t surprise his most devoted fans or his family – writing that he was “a fortunate homosexual man.”
“I was trying to believe so hard from the bottom of my heart that I was not gay because what I was presenting on stage was not that,” Martin says in a VH1 preview. ”So it was very confusing.
Several of Martin’s friends are slated to appear throughout the special, including:
- Enrique Iglesias
- Desmond Child (Producer)
- Bruno Del Granada (Manager)
- Ruben Leyva (President, Sony US Latin)
- Jose Vega (Personal Manager)
- David Cabrera (Music Director)
- Robi Draco Rosa (Producer, writer, former Menudo)
- Richard Jay-Alexander (Producer)
- Carolina Gonzalez (Music Critic)
- Wilfredo Rosado (Friend)
- Jordan Levin (Music and Culture Critic/Miami Herald)
- Robert Avellanet (former Menudo)
- Edgardo Diaz (former Menudo Manager)
- Jarrett Tomas Barrios (former president, GLAAD)
- Angelica Vale (Co-star on Mexican Musical Theater)
